1. Choose the Retail Channel First
A neighborhood can contain dozens of stores, but the store format determines what comparison is possible.
For beauty, a multi-brand retailer is efficient when you want several Korean brands side by side. For fashion, a multi-brand store can help you discover labels; a flagship works when you already care about one brand.
For a current model, exact size or premium gift, department stores offer a more controlled selection. Outlets work differently because stock and sizes change. Duty-free shopping adds a departure or airport-pickup step.
Markets, optical shops, supermarkets and electronics stores each solve a different purchase problem. Use the detailed Series 9 guide only when that category becomes relevant.
2. Then Choose the Seoul Area by Shopping Job
Beauty, fashion, Daiso, department stores and tourist services fit into a compact first-trip route.
Seongsu — Brand Discovery and Pop-Ups
Use it when browsing new Korean labels, flagships and temporary retail spaces is part of the day.
Hongdae — Youth Fashion, Character and K-Pop
Works well when shopping sits beside cafés, music and an evening itinerary.
Gangnam / COEX — Premium and Indoor Shopping
Name the actual hub: Samseong/COEX, Gangnam Station, Apgujeong or Cheongdam produce very different shopping days.
Insadong — Heritage and Design Gifts
Useful for crafts, paper goods, tea, traditional motifs and design-led Korean gifts.
You do not need to collect shopping districts. Choose one or two that fit the products already on your list.
3. Flagship or Nearby Branch?
Use a flagship when assortment, comparison, new launches or the store experience matter.
For a product you already know, check a branch already on your route. That can save an unnecessary cross-city trip.
Inventory, promotions, operating hours and tourist tax-refund service can vary by branch. Check the actual location when a specific item matters.
4. Buy Early When You May Need a Second Visit
Clothing and shoes may need an exchange. Prescription glasses may need production or an adjustment. Portable electronics should be tested while you can still return to the seller.
Put those purchases earlier in the trip.
Packaged snacks, familiar cosmetic refills and bulky supermarket multipacks can wait until you know how much luggage space remains.

5. Before Leaving the Store
If tourist tax refund matters, confirm participation and the refund route before leaving the counter.

For clothing, electronics, glasses, cosmetics and other purchases that may need correction, keep the receipt and useful packaging until you know you are keeping the item.
