1. Namdaemun — Broad Daytime Shopping
Namdaemun spreads across alleys and multiple market buildings rather than one simple indoor hall.
Choose one or two categories before arriving: kitchenware, children's clothing, glasses, ginseng and dried foods, accessories or everyday goods.
Hours vary by building and trade. For a first casual shopping visit, daytime is easier to navigate than treating Namdaemun's night wholesale activity as ordinary tourist retail.

2. Dongdaemun — Choose the Exact Building First
Dongdaemun is a district of fabric halls, wholesale businesses, retail fashion malls and DDP-area shopping. They do not run on one timetable.
Visit Seoul currently lists the overall Dongdaemun Market district as 00:00–24:00 while explicitly noting that hours vary per store and mall.
If you plan to stay late, check the last subway or decide on a taxi before the shopping continues.

3. Gwangjang — Market and Food Alley Use Different Hours
Gwangjang still contains textiles, hanbok and clothing, but many international visitors now experience it mainly through its food lanes.
Current Visit Seoul information separates the two:
Food Alley: 09:00–23:00 · open year-round
Around lunch, dinner and weekends, narrow food aisles can be crowded. Look at the menu and price before ordering, and ask about payment if it matters to you.
Gwangjang fits naturally into a central-Seoul day with the palace area, Ikseon-dong, Cheonggyecheon or Euljiro.

4. Mangwon — Market, Cafés and the Hangang
Mangwon is smaller and more neighborhood-oriented than Namdaemun, Dongdaemun or Gwangjang.
Current Visit Seoul information lists typical hours of 10:00–21:00, with store-by-store variation, and places the market about 351 m from Mangwon Station Exit 2.
It works well with Mangridan-gil cafés and, in good weather, food taken from the market to Mangwon Hangang Park.
That makes it particularly easy to combine with Hapjeong, Hongdae or Yeonnam-dong rather than a rushed palace itinerary.
