A physical tourist SIM can be pre-ordered for airport pickup, bought at an Incheon Airport carrier counter, or purchased through a confirmed seller after you enter the city.
Whichever route you use, finish with the same test: activate the SIM, turn Wi-Fi off, and prove that mobile data works before leaving the seller.

Know whether you need data only or also a Korean number, calls or SMS.

1. Choose Your Purchase Route

For a pre-order, save the order number and the company that provides technical support as well as the pickup counter.
A scheduled flight arrival time isn't the same as the time you reach the public arrivals hall. Immigration and baggage claim come first.
If your flight arrives late at night, check whether the specific seller can still issue or activate your SIM when you reach the counter. A provider's airport presence doesn't mean every counter operates around the clock.
2. At Incheon Airport, Check Terminal, Counter and Hours
Incheon Airport lists SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ telecommunication counters in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Counter hours aren't uniform, even within the same carrier.
Near Arrival Hall F on the west side of the first floor, the airport lists 24-hour counters for KT, SK Telecom and LG U+.
Other carrier counters, including some near Arrival Hall A, operate on shorter schedules such as 06:00–22:00.

Near Exit 4 on the first floor, KT and LG U+ have counters listed as operating 24 hours.
Near Exit 7, SK Telecom has a 24-hour counter.
Other counters have shorter operating hours.
Use the airport's current facility page for your travel date, and don't copy a counter location from an old screenshot.
If you've pre-ordered a SIM through a reseller, follow the pickup location on your own voucher. It may not be the same counter as a carrier's general sales desk.

3. Buying Downtown or at a Convenience Store
VISITKOREA lists tourist-SIM purchase routes through airports and selected retail outlets. Its current guidance includes major convenience-store chains such as CU, GS25, 7-Eleven and Emart24.
That doesn't mean every branch has the same tourist SIMs in stock or can activate every product.
Before walking to a convenience store, check whether that branch sells the exact SIM you need. A seller's website or pickup confirmation should tell you where to go.
Also check what happens after purchase. Some products require online registration, identity checks or activation steps that differ from an airport-counter purchase.
If you're buying late at night and need internet immediately, confirm the activation route before paying. A sealed SIM card in your hand isn't yet a working connection.

4. Confirm the Plan Before Activation
Read the exact functions on the product before the seller activates it.
Korean phone number — included or not
Incoming calls — supported or not
Outgoing calls — supported or not
Incoming SMS — supported or not
Outgoing SMS — supported or not
Validity — when service begins and ends
If the plan includes a Korean number, don't treat that as proof that it supports banking or government mobile identity verification. Those functions are checked separately in the phone-number and verification guides.
For a data-only trip, calls and SMS may not matter. But if you need a Korean number for a reservation, delivery or business contact, confirm exactly which voice and message functions are included before choosing a cheaper plan.
Also ask when the usage period starts. A five-day product can have provider-specific activation and expiration rules, so read the actual conditions rather than assuming all SIMs work the same way.
5. Test the SIM Before You Leave
After activation, turn Wi-Fi off.

3. Open a webpage you haven't already loaded
4. Search a new place in Naver Map or another map app
If both the webpage and map load through cellular data, the connection is working.
If calls or SMS are part of the plan and you need those functions, use the provider's normal test procedure as well.
If the data connection fails, show the status screen to staff while you're still at the counter.
Check which line the phone is using for mobile data and follow the seller's activation instructions. Avoid changing random network settings before asking the provider for help.
