If your phone and the product have already passed the compatibility checks, choose the connection by how your trip will use it.
The biggest divide is independent connection vs shared connection. A SIM or eSIM stays with one traveler, and Pocket WiFi stays with one router.

1. Independent Connection or Shared Connection?
eSIM
A compatible eSIM gives one traveler an independent connection without swapping a physical card. It can often be arranged before arrival.
The extra conditions are digital: installation, activation timing, deletion/reissue policy and the exact phone functions in the plan.
Check the provider's instructions before installing or removing the eSIM. With some travel products, deleting an installed profile can mean losing access to that purchased connection.
Physical SIM
A physical SIM also gives one traveler an independent line. It fits travelers who prefer a physical card swap, want the card inserted and tested at a counter, or prefer to avoid eSIM deletion and reissue risk.
The extra work is physical: pickup, SIM replacement and safe storage of the home SIM.
Pocket WiFi
Pocket WiFi provides one shared internet connection to several nearby devices, and the router becomes the center of that connection.
When the group separates, the travelers who leave the router need another internet connection.
Pocket WiFi doesn't give each connected phone its own Korean mobile number. If calls, SMS or app verification matter, compare those requirements separately from internet access.
2. Compare Functions and Speed Rules
After the allowance — throttled speed or other policy
Korean number — explicitly included?
Calls — incoming / outgoing
SMS — incoming / outgoing
Tethering — permitted?
Validity — how the usage period is counted
Unlimited products should be read together with the high-speed allowance and the speed that applies afterward.
LG U+'s visitor Pocket WiFi, for example, includes 4GB of high-speed data per day and then continues at up to 5Mbps. The 4GB allowance resets at midnight.
Its visitor data eSIM is sold under a different policy: unlimited data without a fixed high-speed allowance or standard post-allowance throttling under the published product terms. Actual speeds can still vary with network conditions.
The two products therefore create different data experiences even though both use the word "unlimited."
A Korean number isn't the same as full identity-verification access. LG U+ distinguishes data-only products from data-plus-voice products. For its tourist plans, SMS verification may work for some reservation apps when supported, but identity verification for banking or government services is not provided.
Check the exact plan before paying extra for calls or messages. A product displaying a Korean number doesn't automatically include every outgoing call, SMS or identity-verification function.
3. Pocket WiFi Depends on Where the Group Goes
One Pocket WiFi serves everyone only while the group stays near the router.
Two travelers go to Jamsil.
The two groups need independent connections if both need live internet.
This matters for free afternoons, separate shopping, different restaurant plans and late-night returns.
Pocket WiFi also adds a device to carry and charge, plus deposit, loss/damage and return conditions.
Before renting, decide who will carry the router and who is responsible for returning it. If one person leaves for the airport before the rest of the group, that can affect everyone else's connection.
4. Compare the Full Trip Cost
Published five-day base prices, before any applicable online discount or promotion.

These are one carrier's published base rates, not Korea-wide market averages. LG U+ offers different data and voice options, speed selections and online promotions. The amount shown at checkout may differ from the base-price example.
Pocket WiFi also requires airport return. LG U+ states that rental charges continue until the device is returned.
Its published deposit terms distinguish payment cards. A qualifying credit card in the passport holder's name is used for a ₩1,111 authorization without an actual charge. A debit-card rental requires a ₩70,000 deposit, refunded after the device is returned in good condition.
These deposit arrangements don't change the basic rental-price comparison, but they do affect the funds you need at pickup.

Install a digital profile; no physical swap; read activation and reissue terms.

Collect and insert a card; keep the home SIM safe; counter staff can test the connection before you leave.
