Free Wi-Fi is widely available at Korean airports, public facilities, hotels, cafés and many transit locations.
On a Wi-Fi-only trip, the connection can disappear between those places. If you need live maps, taxi apps or changing messages while moving, continuous mobile data is more practical.

1. Get Online After Landing
If you arrive at Incheon Airport without working mobile data, look for the airport's official Wi-Fi network. Incheon Airport's English FAQ identifies the free network as AIRPORTWIFI.
Check the network displayed at the airport and follow any current connection instructions. Don't connect to a similarly named network without confirming it belongs to the airport.
That first connection can cover the immediate arrival jobs:

Activate an eSIM you already bought
Save your accommodation address

Hotels and cafés are also useful bridge connections. Check the room information, receipt, counter or menu for the network name and password.

2. Recognize Official Public Wi-Fi

The nationwide Public Wi-Fi service tells users to select Public WiFi Free, open the browser and continue through the public access page.
For Public WiFi Secure, the official guide provides the username and password shown above. Depending on your device, you may also need to complete additional security or certificate settings. Use the provider's instructions rather than guessing those settings.
Seoul's public Wi-Fi system separately offers SEOUL_Secure and SEOUL_Secure_(3). Seoul City recommends the secure networks; the second uses WPA3-Enterprise technology.
When an official secure network is available, use that instead of an unidentified open network. Avoid banking, password changes and sensitive personal-data entry on an open network you can't identify.
A familiar-looking network name alone isn't proof that a hotspot is genuine. Confirm public networks against official instructions or signage when possible.

3. Connected but No Internet? Open the Login Page
A Wi-Fi icon can appear before a hotel, airport or public network has finished giving the phone internet access.
2. If nothing appears, open the normal browser.
3. Complete the login or access page.
4. Disconnect and reconnect once if needed.
5. Try another official hotspot before resetting all network settings.
Hotel and café networks can use the same captive-portal pattern: joining the Wi-Fi and completing internet access are two separate steps.
If the network needs a room number, access code or guest login, use the details provided by the property. Don't enter hotel account credentials into an unfamiliar page just because it appears after connecting.
4. Can You Travel Korea on Wi-Fi Only?

If live directions, taxi calls and messages are regularly needed between Wi-Fi zones, a Wi-Fi-only setup will leave gaps in the trip.
You can still make Wi-Fi-only travel work when your schedule is predictable and you prepare the next route before leaving each connected location. Just remember that a saved map or screenshot can't handle every last-minute change.
5. Before Leaving Wi-Fi, Save Your Offline Packet
Before walking away from the connection, save:
Address and planned route
Accommodation
Hotel name and Korean address
Confirmation
Ticket, reservation, QR code or message you may need
A screenshot is a backup for an address or confirmation. It doesn't update live bus arrivals, traffic or a changed route.
If your booking requires a QR code or an app to open a ticket, check whether it remains accessible offline before leaving Wi-Fi.
