Choose your Incheon Airport transfer from your hotel's location, your luggage and the time you actually leave the terminal. AREX is useful for railway-connected neighborhoods, airport buses can save a difficult luggage transfer, and taxis are worth comparing for groups.

I wouldn't choose one airport transfer as the default for every trip. If an airport bus stops close to my hotel, that's often the first option I'd check. With several people or a lot of luggage, I'd compare a taxi. Traveling alone with a small suitcase, I'd be more likely to use AREX.
The important comparison is airport arrivals hall to hotel entrance, not simply the train or bus journey time.
1. AREX Express for Seoul Station
AREX Express runs nonstop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station, with assigned seating and a separate Express Train ticket.

Both airport terminals connect to AREX from their transportation centers on the basement level. Follow signs for Airport Railroad or AREX, then check that you're entering the Express Train area rather than the All-Stop Train area.
For a hotel within walking distance of Seoul Station, this is a straightforward choice. But the train only gets you to Seoul Station. If you're staying in Myeongdong, Gangnam or another neighborhood, add the final subway, taxi or walking connection.
Express Train tickets and ordinary subway fares are different products. Don't assume you can enter the Express Train gates using the same ordinary transit-card process as the All-Stop train.
If you're arriving after a long flight, having a reserved seat can also be useful. Check the actual next departure, though. Waiting for an Express Train can reduce the time advantage over an All-Stop train that's ready to leave.
The railway operator's published conditions and any discounts can produce different fare figures. Use the fare displayed when purchasing the actual ticket rather than an old screenshot.

2. AREX All-Stop for Hongdae, Gongdeok and Intermediate Stations
The AREX All-Stop train takes longer to reach Seoul Station, but it stops at Hongik University, Gongdeok and other intermediate stations.
If you're staying in Hongdae, getting off at Hongik University Station is usually more useful than riding to Seoul Station and traveling back west.

Fare basis
Adult, one-way, prepaid or postpaid transit-card fare. A single-journey ticket may cost extra.
These fares come from the Airport Railroad operator's published station-to-station fare table. Older Seoul transport pages still show lower All-Stop fares, so use the railway operator's current tariff or station fare display when checking the price.
The All-Stop train uses ordinary commuter-style seating rather than assigned seats. During busy periods, you may have to stand with your luggage.
A small suitcase is generally manageable. With several large bags, consider how you'll handle the escalators, elevators, station exits and any further subway transfers.
When using the All-Stop train, a valid transit card or a single-journey ticket is required. For a single-journey card, remember that the refundable card deposit is separate from the actual train fare.
If you're transferring from AREX to another subway line, check the route and exit number before you reach the interchange station.

3. Airport Bus When the Stop Is Close to Your Hotel
An airport limousine bus may be easier than rail when the route stops near your hotel. Large luggage can generally go in the luggage compartment, and you may avoid carrying suitcases through several subway stations.
The trade-off is road traffic. A bus that takes a direct route to your hotel can still be slower than a train during busy periods.
Route 6015, for example, serves Myeongdong, Chungjeong-ro, Gongdeok and Mapo.

Terminal 2: Obtain a ticket from the ticket office or ticket machine before boarding.
Since March 5, 2026, passengers boarding Airport Limousine services at Terminal 2 must purchase a ticket in advance. The operator's notice specifically includes routes 6001, 6002 and 6015.
At Terminal 2, follow the signs to the bus ticket office or machines on Basement 1. At Terminal 1, use the appropriate ticket facilities and route boarding stop shown by the airport.
Don't assume you can pay the driver in the same way at every terminal or with every airport-bus company. Boarding and ticket rules differ by operator and direction.
Before choosing the bus, find the stop nearest your actual hotel. A route serving Myeongdong doesn't mean it stops directly outside every Myeongdong hotel.
Search the hotel name and its nearest stop, then decide whether the final walk is manageable with your bags. If the hotel is uphill, down a narrow side street or far from the stop, that last portion matters.

4. Taxi for Door-to-Door Travel
A taxi is worth comparing for several passengers, multiple large suitcases, children, older family members or a hotel with an awkward final connection.
The taxi fare depends on the destination, traffic, tolls, taxi type and late-night timing. A single traveler may find the train or bus much cheaper, but the calculation changes when several people can share one vehicle.
For example, four adults taking a ₩17,000 airport bus would pay ₩68,000 in total. That doesn't mean a taxi will cost ₩68,000. It means a group should compare the total taxi quote with the total cost of four bus tickets rather than looking only at the fare per person.
Check luggage capacity before booking. Four adults with four large suitcases may not fit comfortably in an ordinary sedan. A larger licensed vehicle may be required, with different charges.
Don't accept an unsolicited ride offer from someone approaching you inside the terminal. Incheon Airport warns about illegal solicitation and overcharging by unauthorized call vans posing as taxi services.
If you want a prearranged vehicle, use a legitimate licensed service and confirm the meeting point, passenger capacity, luggage allowance and payment terms in advance.
Save your hotel's Korean address to show the driver. The hotel name alone may not be enough if several accommodations have similar names.

5. Late Arrival: Check Transport After Immigration and Baggage
A flight landing at 10 PM doesn't put you on an airport train at 10 PM. Immigration, baggage claim and customs still come first.
By the time you enter the public arrivals hall, some daytime transport services may have stopped or have only a few departures remaining.
Check the last train for your complete route, not just the first AREX departure. An airport train may still be running while the subway line you need afterward has finished for the night.
Incheon Airport currently lists four main Seoul late-night bus routes:

N6701 — Mapo, Seoul Station, Euljiro and Dongdaemun Design Plaza
Adult fare: ₩18,000
N6703 — COEX, Jamsil, Gangbyeon and Gwangnaru Station area
Adult fare: ₩18,000
These are route-level destinations and major stops, not a promise that every bus stops outside your hotel.
The departure times differ between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A bus may begin at Terminal 2 and reach Terminal 1 later, so don't use the other terminal's time when planning your connection.
The airport also lists different ticket-purchase procedures by operator. Check whether you need a ticket from a booth or machine, or whether the operator supports an approved mobile booking method.
For a hotel in an area not served by a night bus, you may need a taxi from the nearest suitable stop. Compare that remaining ride before deciding that the night bus is the cheaper or easier choice.
If the last practical bus has already left, use the airport's designated taxi area or another licensed transfer service. Don't spend an hour trying to force a transit connection that no longer exists.

Save your airline's actual arrival terminal.
Save one daytime route with the correct station or bus stop.
For a late flight, save the airport's night-bus page and designated taxi information.
Keep enough mobile data or offline directions to reach your accommodation.
