Korean apps can have different requirements at each step. Search may work immediately, while booking, ordering or payment can ask for a phone number, passport verification or a supported payment method.
Follow the task until it's actually confirmed:

1. NAVER Map: Use Passport Verification Where It Is Supported
NAVER introduced Passport Verification on June 4, 2026, for eligible foreign users with passports issued outside Korea.
On supported NAVER travel services, Passport Verification can be used for NAVER Booking, NAVER Order and payment flows through NAVER Map without a Korean mobile phone number.

The option applies to supported services, so look for Passport Verification in the transaction you're trying to complete.
If you can find a restaurant in NAVER Map but can't finish the reservation, check the verification options at that point. Searching for a place and confirming a booking are different steps.
Don't assume Passport Verification is available for every NAVER transaction. The supported services and verification flow can change.

2. Taxi: Use the Official Foreigner Route
Kakao Mobility's k.ride is designed for international users.
Current k.ride information lists Google, Apple and email sign-up, multilingual destination search and driver chat, and payment with overseas-issued cards and supported international payment methods.
Registration still collects a mobile phone number. The advantage is that it doesn't require the same Korean resident-style mobile account and domestic card setup used by some local services.
Before requesting your first ride, register an account, add a supported payment method and search the destination you actually need. Complete these steps while you have a reliable internet connection rather than discovering a registration problem when you're already waiting for a taxi.

3. Food Delivery: Check the Visitor Route, Then Move to the Delivery Guide
Some Korean delivery services now provide foreign-number or international-payment routes for visitors. Availability and the exact flow can change by service.
At this stage, check only whether your current service accepts the contact, address and payment path you have.
A delivery app may let you browse restaurants but stop when you enter a foreign phone number, add a delivery address or try to pay. Find out which step is causing the problem before changing apps.
If you're staying at a hotel, also check whether deliveries can be brought to the entrance or lobby and how the rider will contact you. Completing payment doesn't solve a delivery handoff problem.

4. Where Did the App Stop?
The service requires a Korean number or rejects your current contact information.
IDENTITY-VERIFICATION BARRIER
You have a number or can receive SMS, but the service requires formal Korean mobile identity verification.
PAYMENT BARRIER
Registration or booking works, but the overseas card or payment method is rejected.
An app showing a phone-number error doesn't always mean you need to buy a Korean SIM. Check whether the same service offers an international-user account, a guest option or a separate passport-verification route.
If the problem is formal identity verification, an ordinary tourist number that receives SMS may not fix it. The service may be checking subscriber identity through a Korean mobile carrier rather than simply sending a text message.
If the payment fails after your account and reservation are accepted, check the accepted payment methods separately. Don't repeat the booking without checking whether the first attempt was confirmed.

5. Look for the Service's Official Foreigner Path
Useful labels include:
The company may also operate a separate international app or allow Google, Apple or email registration.
Use the foreigner, guest, passport or global procedure supplied by the service itself.
Before installing another app, check the provider's official website or app-store listing. Look for the exact service name, supported registration method and payment options.
If there is no supported route for your situation, don't keep submitting identification details through unofficial websites or unfamiliar verification services.
6. Save the Confirmation
After payment, save:

Cancellation or modification screen
The contact method the business will use
A successful payment screen and a confirmed reservation aren't always the same thing. Check that the service shows the booking or order in your account, or that you have received its confirmation.
Keep the details somewhere you can access even if mobile data fails. For a restaurant reservation or delivery, the business name, time, address and contact information are particularly useful.
