If you've already chosen an eSIM, the remaining job is straightforward: save the setup details, install the profile, select it for mobile data, and prove that cellular data works in Korea.
Installing an eSIM profile and starting the paid usage period aren't always the same event. Check your provider's activation rule before installing.
Before Installing, Confirm Three Prerequisites
Confirm the specific provider supports your exact phone.
Carrier lock
The phone must be able to use another carrier's eSIM.
Plan-start rule
Know what event begins Day 1.

As one current product example, LG U+ states that its visitor data eSIM begins its usage period with first data use in Korea. Its product must be activated within 60 days after purchase. Other providers can have different activation and validity rules.
Before installation, also check whether the product is data-only or includes voice and SMS. LG U+'s data-only eSIM can be delivered digitally, while its visitor Data+Voice eSIM may require an airport-counter identity check and QR-code collection.

1. Save the QR Code and Order Details
Before scanning the QR code, save:
Order or confirmation number
Provider installation instructions
Plan-start rule
Manual installation details, if supplied
Official support contact
Keep the QR code private. An eSIM activation QR code isn't a general information link that you should share publicly.
Make sure you can access the installation details on another screen if you need to scan the QR code using your phone. Some devices also support opening a QR code from an email, saved image or installation link, but the available method depends on the phone.
Reinstallation and reissue rules vary by provider. LG U+'s visitor eSIM, for example, can't be reissued or reinstalled once installed.
2. Install the eSIM
Connect to reliable Wi-Fi or another working internet connection before beginning the installation. Your phone needs to download the eSIM profile.
iPhone
Scan the provider's QR code and follow the installation prompts. Apple also supports other installation methods on eligible iPhones, including carrier activation, installation links and manual details.
If the provider sends the QR code to the same iPhone, supported iOS versions may let you open it directly from the email or browser. Use the method supplied by the provider.
Samsung Galaxy
Scan the provider's QR code and follow the prompts to add the mobile plan. Samsung also supports manual activation codes on some devices and with some carriers.
Menu wording can vary by phone model, software version and mobile carrier.
Name the travel line Korea or Korea eSIM so it's easy to identify after landing.

Turn off Airplane Mode and check:
2. Mobile Data / Cellular Data uses the Korea eSIM.
3. Data Roaming follows the provider's instructions for that travel line.
Some travel eSIMs use roaming on a Korean partner network and require Data Roaming to be enabled for the travel eSIM. A local Korean product can use different settings.
Don't automatically enable international data roaming on the home SIM unless you intend to use your home carrier's roaming service.
On an iPhone with two active lines, also review any setting that allows the phone to switch cellular-data lines automatically. If your goal is to use only the purchased Korean data plan, make sure the phone isn't unexpectedly using your home carrier's data.
On Galaxy phones, check that the chosen SIM for Mobile Data is the Korean travel line. If the phone is still using the home SIM, change the data selection before testing.
4. Turn Wi-Fi Off and Test Cellular Data
Airport Wi-Fi can hide a failed mobile-data setup.
2. Open a webpage you haven't already loaded.
3. Search a new place in Naver Map or another map app.
If both work over cellular data, the eSIM is online.
If you're using a data-only plan, this confirms the internet connection rather than voice calls or SMS. Check the purchased product separately if it promises those additional functions.
For a Dual SIM phone, confirm that this successful test uses the Korean travel line rather than your home carrier's roaming data.
5. If It Still Does Not Connect, Move to Symptom-Based Troubleshooting
If you still see No Service, SOS or Searching, or you have signal bars but no internet, continue with the troubleshooting guide.
Don't delete the eSIM or start changing random APN values before identifying the symptom.
Connect to trusted Wi-Fi and keep the provider's order number and installation instructions available if you need technical support.
